Polished Goniatite Ammonite
This fossilised ammonite shell belonged to a Goniatite, an extinct group of marine molluscs that lived during the Palaeozoic period, approximately 350 million years ago. Displayed in a museum quality glass dome bell jar, the specimen highlights the ancient geometry of one of Earth’s earliest coiled cephalopods.
Goniatites are easily recognised by their smooth, tightly coiled shells and distinctive zigzag suture patterns, a simpler form compared to their later ammonite relatives. These animals inhabited shallow seas long before the age of dinosaurs, drifting through warm waters in search of food using primitive jet propulsion.
Carefully prepared and polished, the shell reveals natural mineralisation in tones of grey, cream, and subtle metallics. A quietly compelling piece that captures the early evolution of complex marine life.
Base: Solid Oak Wood
Mount: Stainless Steel
Dome: Handblown 2mm tempered glass
Dimensions: 120×160mm
